Mardi Gras Inspired Pencil Cup Holder

Recommended ages: 6 and older

Mardi Gras also known as Fat Tuesday refers to the events of the Carnival celebration taking place in many countries around the world.  The Latin-derived name of the holiday is sometimes also spelled Carnaval, typically in areas where Dutch, French, Spanish, and Portuguese are spoken, or Carnevale in Italian-speaking contexts.  The predominant colors are purple which represents justice, green represents faith, and gold represents power.

Inspired by these colors we are making recycled pencil holders.

What do you need?
Empty glass or plastic jar
White glue
Purple, gold and green glitter

How to make your recycled pencil holder:

This is a super easy craft to do with kids.  You can be as creative as you’d like.   All you have to do is trace thin lines of glue on your jar.  Make sure the cap of the glue stick is not completely open if not you’ll have thick lines of glue. (This will cause the glue to drip on the sides of the jar).  Sprinkle glitter one color at a time. Let dry, and repeat with next color.  Tip: Put a paper plate underneath to catch the extra glitter that falls on the side.
